Esat Demirel (whose team will be doing the main wood-frame work) and Metin Usta (who does the fine woodwork) and my father Cafer Bozkurt came together to discuss the next main steps. First, as the clean-up work and rough masonry work in the basement start, the woodwork will be cleaned from the outside.
In order to identify the parts of the wood façade cladding that can be kept intact, the already chipping paint is cleaned off with a heatgun.
27.09.2012 : Thursday
Work starts on the side façade.
The picture above shows Esat Demirel,
Metin Cömert and Cafer Bozkurt in
discussion. They had met on site already
on 19.09.2012 Wednesday, but are
re-discussing as the work continues.
27.09.2012 - 04.10.2012 : Work on the side façade is done.
05.10.2012 - 06.10.2012 : Work on the front façade stopped, because it will be re-done anyway.
We primarily cleaned the side façade because we were fairly certain that the front façade would have to be changed, since the front is problematic structurally - the bay window (cumba) is falling over, and the whole front is caving inwards. So, the wood frame will be re-constructed, and for that, the wood siding has to be removed anyway. Besides, it is quite rotten anyway..
The side façade, however, is strong where the original wood remains. There are a lot of ugly new patches, however, done without regard to the original detail and sizing of the planks! So, we will have to replace those to get back the original look. We might also want to correct the crookedness of this side wall while we are at it: the ground floor wall tapers outwards towards the top, ca. 10cm!! If we would want to correct the wood framework, we would have to re-do the cover siding as well... This is a major decision, we will think more about it..
