Work on the front façade timber-frame has started at the 1. floor level. There have been electricity cuts however, up to 4 hours, thus slowing down the work. And with the Bayram arriving in a few days, work will halt for a week! Although we had hoped to finish and secure the main timber-frame before the Bayram, it does not seem very likely. The holidays will give the crew a much deserved break though!

Erecting and stabilizing the first post adjacent to the brick side wall: (5x12cm wood support backing the last column of bricks)
Şevket Usta uses special tricks of the trade to stabilize the support: double nails!!
Then comes the first main post 12x12cm wood column. Also seen in these pictures is the steel clamp that was found in-situ in the brick wall (typical traditional construction method), that helps attach the wood frame to the brick side wall!
By the way, I keep mentioning this 'brick side wall'; it is important to note that this is the wall between this building and the neighbouring building, and that this is typically called a 'fire-wall' because it was built so as to isolate one building from another in case a fire breaks out in the block (which used to happen quite a lot in the old days). Old Arnavutköy has a lot of traditional wooden houses, therefore it is very fortunate that we now have a brand new firestation (100m from this house) in Arnavutköy!!
